Public Service Announcements
Public Service Announcements are offered as a community service by WAMU 88.5 FM. They are reserved for non-profit organizations, for publicizing events or services, and for requesting volunteers.
Public Service Announcements can only be submitted by email to calendar@wamu.org. Please do not mail or fax your announcement.
- All potential PSAs be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the event.
- We prefer to get prepared scripts, but you can also send us a press release or brochure. Pre-produced PSAs are not accepted under any circumstances.
- Please include a telephone number that our listeners can contact for more information. We also recommend including a web address and/or an email address.
- No events or services costing more than $50 will be considered.
- Because of their limited audience, PSA's for college or high school reunions and church/synagogue/mosque events will not be considered.
- FCC regulations discourage Public Radio Stations from promoting fundraisers for other organizations, even non-profits.
- Due to the high volume of PSA requests, we cannot notify you as to whether your PSA was aired on WAMU.

December 25th is just around the corner. For most children Christmas Morning will bring happiness and laughter as they gather to open presents from under well lit trees. But did you know that approximately 38 percent of children in the District come from low-income working poor families? For many of these children there will be no presents and no Christmas morning laughter. This is why Central Union Mission started Operation Christmas Miracle. Every year Operation Christmas Miracle provides gifts for more than one thousand local area children. But to meet this year’s needs we need your help. You can sponsor a child, send gifts or make a donation. Call 202-745-7118 to find out how you can get involved. That number again is 202-745-7118. Or go online to www.missiondc.org, that’s www.missiondc.org. Together we can give a child a Christmas Miracle.

Travel back 143 years to the revelry of Abraham Lincoln's second inaugural ball. This small, focused exhibition celebrates the president's second inaugural ball, held on March 6, 1865 in what is now the museum's historic home. The ball took place as Lincoln's second term began, with the Civil War in its final stages, and only six weeks before Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theater nearby. The exhibition, which relates the ball to the building and its history, features ephemera from the inaugural ball, including the invitation and menu as well as engravings illustrating the night's events and other artifacts. From pomp and politics to feasting and fights over food, this was one night destined for the history books. Charles Robertson, a specialist in American decorative arts, is the guest curator of the exhibition.
The Honor of Your Company Is Requested: President Lincoln's Inaugural Ball Exhibition is on display now through January 18, 2010.
