Browser caching demystified.

What is my browser cache and how do I empty it?

In order to speed-up your visits to web sites, your web browser will often save copies of pages so that when you return to the site, it will load faster. Sometimes browsers fail to recognize that a more current version of a page than the one it previously saved is available. So, it's a good idea to know how to empty the "cache" -- the location your browser stores copies of web pages.

If your browser isn't listed, look for similar settings.

Windows

  • Internet Explorer
Go to Tools -> Options -> General -> Temporary Internet Files then click Delete Files

  • Firefox
Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cache then click Clear.

  • Netscape
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache -> then click Clear Memory Cache

Apple

  • Safari
Go to Safari -> Empty Cache

  • Firefox Go to Firefox -> Preferences -> Privacy -> Cache then click Clear.

  • Netscape
Go to Netscape -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache -> then click Clear Memory Cache
